Is there a border Cricut Cartridge?

That is a great question.

There is no particular cartridge that only does borders, however lots of the cartridges have borders as creative features. If you want to make 12″ border (like a standard sheet of paper) you have to have the Cricut expression.

I do think it’s a great idea for Cricut to do, I bet it would be a big hit.

Many might wonder exactly what is the difference between a Cricut solutions cartridge and any other Cricut cartridge. Here is your answer.

Most “regular” Cricut cartridges have about 100 designs, and 6 creative features. A solutions cartridge will have only about 50 designs and 2 creative features. Since the solution cartridges contain less, they also cost less, usually about 1/2 the price of a “full” Cricut cartridge. Solution cartridges can be a font, or a shape cartridge.

George and Basic shapes cartridge is the included cartridge with the original Cricut machine. The cartridge has a nice hybrid combo of items, with a basic font, and basic shapes (just as the name implies).

The George cartridge supports sign, slotted, charm, silhouette, shadow, and shadow blackout.

If you did not get this cartridge with your Cricut, then it can be somewhat hard to find, but some retailers do carry it from time to time if you watch. Another good place to look is eBay or craigslist.

Cricut Create

What is the Cricut Create?

Provocraft introduced the first Cricut cutting machine in July, 2006 (7/15/2006). In February 2007 (2/6/2007), Provocraft added the Cricut Expression to the lineup of Cricut products.

Now in 2008 Provocraft has added another cutting machine to it’s lineup, called the Cricut Create.

The Cricut Create combines the portability of the original Cricut with much of the functionality of the Cricut Expression. Cricut Create comes with the DonJuan font and shape cartridge, one 6″ x 12″ cutting mat.

I am guessing that Provocraft may eventually discontinue the original cricut machine. They may also keep the original cricut around as an entry level machine, to get folks into the Cricut family of machines. For now you have 3 different Cricut machine levels. The lower end entry level original Cricut machine, the new Cricut Create, and the top of the line Cricut Expression. Want to know more about Cricut Machines? See our page on Cricut basics.
